About the event

Make your own vermicomposting bin! Worm composting can give you gold for your garden. Not only is this composting method great for the environment and sustainable, it provides your soil with the BEST organic fertilizer possible. Check out our worm bin after living in the bin for 4 years. It's time to split them! Worms multiply and so will your investment! We will be splitting our farm in half and showing you how it's done! Craft your own two story composting bin, fill it with Red Wigglers and composting ingredients. Watch as we show you several ways to harvest your worm castings and make a compost tea for use on plants.

Worm composting or vermicomposting is the use of earthworms to convert organic waist into fertilizer. Worms eat two times their body weight each day! Composting is important because we need help putting nutrients back into the soil. The fertilizer is worm poop; other wise known as worm castings and is concidered to be one of the best soil amendments possible. In worm composting, the worms added to the bin will multiply and fill the space. You can then split them in half and have two bins as they constantly reproduce when in a healthy environment.

Our red wigglers have been calling our Michigan basement home for roughly 4 years. They do not stink or cause bugs when they are properly cared for; and this workshop will teach you tricks and tips to aviod these problems at home. In participation in this workshop, you will have the availability to contact us afterward for additional help if needed. One way to stay grounded and connected to the Earth durring those long winter months is to work with your worms!

Tickets are $120 per bin and can include up to two attendees per ticket. TICKET SALES END MAY 11TH AT NOON. We supply everything you will need to make a two story - 3 gallon 15"x7" Red Wiggler Vermicomposting Bin including 250 worms, coconut coir bedding and a spray bottle to keep them moist. Worms will live 5 years or more in your composting bin if you take proper care of it. This is the only Worm Composting Workshop we will offer this year unless requested.
